A Brief History of Carver, MN

As a city on the riverfront, Carver has a history for being an area where Native Americans as well as early pioneers frequented as early as the 17th century. Johnathan Carver, exploring the river system on behalf of the British Empire, and mapped out the area; Carver's River, or Carver Creek as it's known today, was named after him.

By the turn of the 19th century, French trader Jean-Baptiste Faribault, set up the Little Rapids trading post in the area. In 1854, a village occupied by the Sisseton-Wahpeton existed there. One year later, and the city would have a range of businesses, only to later suffer collapse during the Dakota War of 1862. Approximately 500 pioneers were killed by war parties attacked settlements throughout the state. 

Carver also suffered from a flood before its ultimate restoration beginning in 1969. In 2007, the city was designated a Preserve America Community.
