As a small city in Hennepin County, Long Lake can be found along U.S. Highway 12 just north of Lake Minnetonka. A drive into the heart of Minneapolis from Long Lake takes approximately 20 minutes. Overall, the city is less than a square mile in size.

A Brief History of Long Lake, MN

The area's first settlers arrived in approximately 1855. Many of them were Nova Scotians who lived off the land and fished the lakes. 

A sawmill was among the first businesses in the area, prior to the arrival of the railroad. Soon thereafter, a general store as well as a flour mill and hotel were established.

In 1906, Long Lake was incorporated.
