A Brief History of Loretto, MN

Loretto, MN, originally drew immigrants from German and Dutch backgrounds due to its presence on the Soo Line. Founded in 1886, the city was named after a small town in Italy known as a Catholic place of pilgrimage.  

By the turn of the twentieth century, the city featured a dairy, a saloon, a blacksmith shop, a general store and more. The city was ultimately incorporated in 1940.
