Located north of the Twin Cities metro, Saint Francis is a small city with a population of roughly 7500 people. The city itself measures approximately 24 square miles, stretching horizontally along the border of Anoka County.

A Brief History of Saint Francis, MN

The city derives its name from Francis of Assisi, the Catholic saint, and its naming can be traced to the Rum River's origins. Saint Francis Township was settled in the mid-19th century while a dam and a sawmill were developed nearby.

Within a few years, a variety of shops popped up and soon a large mill was developed. Other factories followed suit. Ultimately, the dam and mill would be destroyed by fire. By 1974, Saint Francis was incorporated as a city.

With the Rum River and a variety of ponds decorating the countryside, Saint Francis has a selection of lovely spots where the most valuable properties lie. The city is home many new, big houses on expansive, private lots. It is not rare to see large pole barns included on their land.

With the beauty of the riverfront carving its way through town, a good deal of parkland is available for an evening stroll. Additionally, the expansive Edgewild park has plenty of open space for casual recreation. During the day, many find themselves out on the local golf course.

Also worth mentioning is the Great Northern Railway Historical Society, which is dedicated to the early days of the railroad. Additionally, the city is known for hosting the longstanding Pioneer Days annual festival.
