A Brief History of Woodland, MN

The area of Lake Minnetonka has a history that stretches back to the its first recognition as sacred land by the Native Americans. When European fur trappers arrived, followed by farmers and other early settlers, the land was developed. Alongside its homesteads, the earliest buildings in the area belonged to a sawmill and a furniture varnishing operation.

Founded in 1882, Woodland itself was incorporated in 1948. By 1956, it was reduced to one of the smallest cities in the area subsequent to annexation from what was then Minnetonka Township.

Woodland's homes are among the most impressive in the State of Minnesota, and many of them reside on lots larger than two acres. The Groveland Assembly Neighborhood has a unique history as a Christian recreation camp at the turn of the 20th century, and it is filled with lovely homes.

The area is exclusive, however, with few homes for sale. It is not uncommon for Woodland homes to hit the market at $1 million or more, and the city's median property value in 2017 was reported to be well above $800000.

A sunset over the lake is positively the best thing anyone in Woodland could experience. The city's shady roads lay on the edge of thick woods that compose the natural beauty of the area. It is obvious why anyone would want to come to Woodland to find peace.

On the eastern edge of town lies the Old Stone Arch, which was built in 1900 using stones from the nearby shores. It was the entryway to a prominent home that no longer exists. The small park adjacent to the attraction includes a small picnic area.
